7 Top Places to Eat in Mexico City

The food scene in Mexico City is incredible! From corner vendors selling fresh churros, to markets stands selling quesadillas made to order, to fine dining establishments, serving the most innovative farm to table fare, Mexico City has one of the best food scenes around! In 7 days I did my best, trying a variety of foods and locations. It was a hard job but I did my best. Here are 7 top places I ate in Mexico City and would eat again!

  1. Los Danzantes – Parque Centenario 12, Coyoacán TNT

A beautiful spot in Coyoacán featuring playful inspirations of traditional ingredients and dishes. I loved the fish and hominy, and the delicious local cheese melted in tender hoja se santa. Plus they had an ample Mexican wine list. And the view of the square is beautiful! Reservations recommended.

2. Máximo Bistro – Av. Álvaro Obregón 65 Bis, Roma Nte

This boutique restaurant in Roma Norte was fantastic! I loved the design but let’s talk about the food. Exquisite! I LOVED the grilled prawns in an earthy chile seasoning as well as the agua chile. The seared pork dish was sublime. Female pastry chef. Reservation recommended.

3. MUX Mexico – Jalapa 189, Roma Nte.,

A phenomenal woman-owned spot by Diana López Del Río. It was a fantastic find! The green mole is superb and the drink program was a highlight! Stop by her bar Matuche for a late night drink. Chef Del Rio has traveled all around Mexico to bring a variety of traditional flavors and dishes to CDMX. Incredible and innovative drink selection.

4. Broka Bistro – Zacatecas 126, Roma Nte.

Another incredible spot in Roma Norte with farm to table ingredients with unique applications. The steak and mashed potatoes was phenomenal! The steak was perfectly cook on a bed of creamy potatoes – all local! I also loved the nopal agua chile–tender pieces of cactus in a tart and flavorful broth.

5. Madre Cocina – Mercado de Coyoacán, puerta3, Malintzin 99-local 7y8, Del Carmen, Coyoacán

This small but popular market stall is located in the Mercado de Coyoacán. I would go back here in a heartbeat! The chilaquiles rellenos with your pick of 7 salsas adorned with flowers was TOP TIER and only 80 pesos for a full plate.I chose cochinita filling and squash blossom and guajillo salsas.

6. Tostadas de Coyoacan – Mercado de Coyoacán, Ignacio Allende 49, Del Carmen, Coyoacán

Located in the Mercado de Coyoacán, this tostada spot was another do not miss market find! It’s quite popular so there might be a line, but it moves fast. I could have just lived in the market and eaten all day there was a line but it moved fast. Get the tinga! I also had the ceviche which was incredible! Fresh juices to order too.

7. El Taco Taco – 06000, Dolores 56, Centro, Cuauhtémoc

A FABULOUS historic torta place in Centro. Get the Pavo (turkey) and thank me later. Delicious bread, a swipe of chipotle, and avocado, with slow cooked turkey breast, sliced. This place has been in business for 70 years and there’s a reason.
